Save the T.

Favorite T-shirt? To get the longest life from a special tee, wash it in cold water with similar colors on a gentle cycle. Lay it flat to dry as you would a sweater. Throwing a t-shirt into a hot dryer will cause fading, pilling and can make sleeves twist and stretch out of shape. If there’s beading or other bling on the shirt, turn it inside out and machine wash in a mesh laundry bag, then air-dry.

Men’s trends for 2014.

Double-breasted blazers, bright neon sneakers and bold floral prints are here for spring and beyond.  Looks include plaid and checked blazers over khaki and denim. Decorative prints range from over-scale traditional florals to tropical prints inspired by Hawaiian favorites, watercolor batiky-tie-die and classic designer camo.  And welcome back the classic favorite polka dot.  Man up and stow your gear in a leather bag, brief case style.  See Details magazine’s top trends from Europe at http://goo.gl/qSpc3Z

Lace is back.

Every runway, from Dior to Vera Wang, is showing lace for spring/summer 2014.  WWD says, “Whether cutwork, crochet or eyelet, this ancient handiwork takes an au courant chic look for spring.” Dolce and Gabbana contrasts black lace with bright blue in the their cruise collection www.swide.com/?p=307049. Going beyond the typical, graphic mesh inserts and webbed overlays added interest and zing to yet another life for lace. http://goo.gl/pOVGWk

Wash or clean?

Does the label say washable, but the garment looks and feels like it needs dry cleaning? Some manufacturers avoid marking an item as “dry clean only” even though professional cleaning would keep the garment looking and wearing its best, especially when there’s a special finish on the fabric, tricky trim or complex construction. Bring it in and our fabric experts will give you the best advice. Not to mention our unbeatable finishing – not a crease or wrinkle.

Latte on your lapel?

Spilled coffee down the front of your shirt? We’ve all spilled a little now and then, and the instinct to rub it is hard to resist.  Blot, blot and blot. Sometimes a stain removal pen (like Tide) can help in the short term. The best answer is to bring us the garment as soon as you can. Our stain removal experts use professional products and procedures that can take the coffee out of most fabric.

The classic cardigan.

Mr. Rogers isn’t the only celebrity in a cardigan. The 7th Earl of Cardigan started it all back in the mid-1800’s. Back then, they were bulky, warm single or double breasted coats with shawl collars. Today, cardigans have slimmed down and are made of almost every material for men and women. They can be worn with jeans or khakis, dress or shorts. Some wear cardigans as the jacket to their outfit, others make the cardigan the main piece. Like other classic garments, investing in a quality cardigan makes sense. The classic style easily moves from season to season, and a beautiful wool or cotton cardigan always looks flattering, comfortable and easy going. Trust us to keep your knits in perfect condition, clean and fresh.

Best fitting chinos.

America’s favorite work-casual pants, chinos look even better when they fit properly. First, they should not need a belt to stay up. Avoid pleats — unless you want to look like your stomach is bigger. The legs should be comfortably close, without pinching or causing resistance when you move. Choose a length so there’s a single break.  That’s the crease at the bottom of the pants where fabric meets shoes. If you’re wearing slim chinos without socks, you probably want no breaks. If fit and finish on your chinos is important, talk to us. Our alterations specialists can custom fit any garment.  Read the complete How Clothes Should Fit here.
